HISTORY

The Broomfield Club was founded in 1911 by LESLIE H.MORDLE but although it instantly made good progress, it had to close down in 1914 when all of its players enlisted in the forces following the outbreak of The Great War.
In 1919 as a result of tremendous efforts by ARTHUR THOMPSON the Club was reconstructed and joined the Wood Green League. In 1926 the Club became a founder member of the Nemean Amateur League and applied for affiliation to The Amateur Football Alliance, a step it has never regretted.

For the next 11 years in spite of having several changes of ground, the Club enjoyed a good measure of success winning many competitions and it managed to retain position in the Second Division of the Nemean League.

In 1937 the Club was granted by the Southgate Borough Council the tenancy of the pitch at Hazelwood Sports Ground whichwe still occupy today. Two years later with the outbreak of World War Two, competition was suspended but the Club stalwarts, HAROLD WHAYMAN and GEORGE FRENCH arranged a list of formidable 'friendly' fixtures which included matches against Service sides.

Some professionals, (including Joe Hulme of Arsenal and England fame), guested for the Club and the Committee was asked to arrange certain special matches and events to help raise money for the Mayor's Southgate Appeal Funds, one of which was for the purpose of a Spitfire.
With the return of several of its men in 1946 following the cessation of hostilities, the Club reformed to reconstruct its league activities and it was soon evident that Broomfield

would be a strong contender for championship honours. Although the prize did not come immediately, the 1st XI eventually secured the League Championship in Season 1950/51 and this heralded a run of success unprecedented in the Club's history.

In 1952 came the real breakthrough for the Club when through the determined efforts of the Committee, the Southgate Borough Council granted a lease to the Clubhouse, Bowling Green and Tennis Courts in Hedge Lane and following this came the formation of The Broomfield Club.

With its own Headquarters steps were taken to launch a 3rd XI and after 25 years of trying, the Club applied for membership of the SAL and was accepted. In the next three years culminating in the Club Jubilee year in 1961, the 1st XI achieved the almost impossible feat of winning 3rd, 2nd and 1st Divisions of the SAL in consecutive seasons, which was an all time record that has never been equaled.

Since these heady days the section has greatly increased its membership and currently operates six XI's in competition football and a Veteran's side, which plays only friendly games.

The Club, through its various XI's, has continued to make additions to its honours list. These have, in latter years been of a lesser nature and number, until the 1st X1 achievements of winning the SAL 3rd Div Championship in 1999/2000 the 2nd Div Championship in 2000/2001,2008/2009 and the historic Double Season 2004/2005 when the 1st Div Championship and Middx/Essex AFA Senior Cup where brought home to Hedge Lane.

2011-2012 Season will see a hundred years of Broomfield F.C. history a tremendous achievement, and great testament to all those who have participated in the Club's progress down the years.
